1. Briquetting

Briquetting – the action of turning bulk produce into bricks of solid-state using either a hydraulical or mechanical press. The term “briquette” came from the French word “brique”, meaning a brick. The most common briquetted materials are coal dust, wood sawdust, and metal shavings, but it does not end there.

 

2. Sawdust briquetting

One of the most popular uses of briquetting is compressing fine particles of wood such as sawdust into sawdust briquettes which are then used for heating. Every manufacturing plant that involves the processing of wood creates massive amounts of sawdust which is a real headache to store, transport and get rid off. One of (If not THE most) profitable ways to get rid of sawdust is briquetting as it reduces the volume of it which makes it easier to store, transport, but most importantly – increases the value of the waste drastically. Briquette presses are usually able to briquett sawdust, straw, wood chips and other biomass waste. It is important to note, that some biomass produce requires some type of prior preparations before they can be briquetted. For example, one characteristic of sawdust that is required to form quality briquettes is that the humidity of the dust should not be higher than 15%. Also, even though hydraulic briquette presses adjust to the changes in the fraction – the more linear the change of fraction of the biomass, the easier it is to ensure the quality of the briquettes. Briquetting sawdust or other biomass waste generated in factories is also a great way to join the increase the sustainability of your company as biomass is a renewable source of energy and is a green way to heat facilities and households all while generating additional income. Briquette presses are fed from a sawdust bunker using an unloading system whether it is a screw conveyor from a hopper or a KUS unloading system. Additional sawdust hoppers and distributors help to split the income of material between multiple briquetting machines. After that briquettes are then packed into bags of 12, which can be done by hand using a more labour-intensive packing process, or by an automated packing machines which lower the dependability on the workforce.

 

3. Briquetting metal

Compressing metal shavings and swarf into solid bricks is a great way to reduce company costs. Loose shavings waste logistical resources, as they take up a lot of volume during storage and transportation. Turning loose swarf and shavings into briquettes increases their density, which opens options to store/transport much more metal with the same volume. Another feature, between many advantages of briquetting, include the return of lubricants and cooling substances lost with the turnings during the manufacturing process. During compaction, liquids are collected and can be filtered back to the machines drastically lowering the cost of machinery coolants. Additionally, foundries pay more for metal briquettes as they provide higher yield at smelting stations than loose shavings which burn up in high heat.

Cheaper logistics, higher-value trades at foundries and recycling of coolants all combine into a great way to decrease costs and increase profits.

4. Koks reikalingas patalpų plotas?

Briketavimo preso užimamas plotas yra 4m². Presas su pakavimo stalu ir briketų kreipiančiosiomis gali būti patalpintas minimalioje 20m² patalpoje.

5. Kiek reikia aptarnaujančio personalo?

Vienas operatorius gali pakuoti produkciją nuo dviejų dirbančių presų.

6. Ar galima briketuoti skiedrą(chip)?

Ne. Turint skiedrą (sausą) linijoje statomas plaktukinis malūnas, kuris skiedrą permala iki smulkios frakcijos. Turint šlapią skiedrą, geriau permalti prieš džiovinimą, nes smulkią frakciją džiovinti lengviau ir greičiau.

7. Ar nėra per brangu gaminti briketus su žaliavos džiovinimu?

Džiovinimo įranga, kainos atžvilgiu, visoje briketavimo linijoje sudaro didesnę dalį negu preso kaina. Tačiau pats džiovinimo procesas energetiniu atžvilgiu nėra labai brangus, nes šilumos generatoriuje kurui naudojamas tas pats džiovinamas kuras. Priklausomai nuo džiovyklos tipo, džiovyklos gali būti kūrenamos ir gabalinėmis atliekomis ar atraižomis. Energetinis imlumas ir džiovinimo laikas priklauso nuo paduodamos į džiovyklą žaliavos drėgnumo. Dažniausiai naudojamos būgninės džiovyklos.

8. Ar įmanoma gaminti briketus iš medienos žievės?

Yra žinomos dvi įmonės gaminančios briketus iš žievės Latvijoje ir Rusijoje. Briketų iš žievės kaloringumas yra didesnis negu iš pjuvenų.
